Hi, I’m Hannah! After working in the corporate and non-profit world for many years, in 2015 I began a new career path and followed my dreams into all things nutrition and health! I am now a university qualified nutritionist.
From my late 20’s and into my 30’s I began to focus on my health, before that I could do whatever I wanted, including eating and drinking whatever I wanted to, partying, staying up late and doing little exercise. Then coupled with a stressful job and stressful life situations, this lifestyle began to take a toll on my health and I sought for ways to improve my health, in a natural way.
I tried lots of dietary changes but I was still tired all the time, I still had asthma and hay fever, I still needed afternoon pick-me-ups (lots of sugar!), I still had aches and pains, I still had skin issues and I still had food intolerances and digestive problems.
Throughout the process of healing and managing my gut issues, I learnt a lot about my body and I began to see major improvements in my health.
After all of this experimentation, I now follow a way of eating that is right for my unique body and my life experiences, and it is always evolving but it has always been about reaching a point of good gut health, because good health begins with the digestive system.
I struggled with digestive issues long before I realised I had issues and long before I sought help. Most people I have spoken to with similar issues also experienced the same indifference.
Reflux, indigestion, bloating, stomach pain, diarrhoea, constipation, food intolerances, and blood in your stools are not symptoms of a healthy digestive system if you experience them regularly, and yet we put up with them.
Is it because we think that they are normal and that everyone gets them? Is it because we are not paying enough attention to our bodies and what they are telling us? Is it because we enjoy the food we eat so much that we put up with the side effects? I know that it was a little of all of those points for me.
When all my tests came back negative for anything serious, my GP suspected Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS). IBS is a collection of symptoms of bloating, abdominal pain, diarrhoea or constipation (or both) that have no definable cause and as such it is hard to diagnose. I then began the low FODMAP diet and I saw huge improvement in my symptoms and it really helped me manage my symptoms but it didn't treat the cause of my issues.
Then in 2017 I did a breath test for SIBO (Small Intestine Bacterial Overgrowth) and it came back positive. Following herbal antimicrobial treatment and the SIBO Bi-Phasic Diet to manage my symptoms I was finally able to enjoy food again that I hadn't been able to eat in many years, yay for hummus!
I also ensured that I made a daily conscious effort to exercise and manage stress and other triggers. I also sought help from other health professionals (chiropractor, myotherapist, counsellor, acupuncturist, GP etc) when needed.
Whether you have a diagnosed condition or whether you just want to improve your gut health, I am here as a nutritionist to help you reach your health goals.
